What is the IPAP18?
Our main goal is making our faculty a showcase of the advances that have taken place in recent years in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. For this reason, this congress has the acronym: IPAP18, and its meaning is “Innovation in Pharmacy: Advances and Perspectives”. Its structure, organized in different Symposiums, tries to give an updated vision about education, research and pharmaceutical projection.

The unique atmosphere refers to more than just climate, but rather its pace of life, the city’s biological clock.
On a human level, Salamanca boasts a calm and pleasant atmosphere, yet at the same time is vibrant, festive and replete with resourcefulness. An atmosphere that cures, calms, motivates and entertains. And if we allow it, if only for a short while, to merge with us, just like a song or a plant it takes root and starts to grow.
An Atmosphere, an ambiance, reminding us that in the 16th Century, all eyes were focused on Salamanca.

To this end, we have brought together professionals from all continents to hear from them about Pharmacy studies in Europe, Asia, Africa and America in the “World Symposium in Pharmacy Education Around”. Advances in cardiac and cerebral therapeutics and studies on pharmacogenetics, nanotechnology, Bidgdata or nutrition in the “Omics” era will be the fields of debate within the Symposium dedicated to Pharmaceutical research. In addition, the National Agency of Medicines and Health Products will lead a round table on antibiotic resistance, called “Superbugs: the global epidemic” and the General Council of Pharmaceutical Schools will present experiences in the development of professional pharmaceutical services from the Community Pharmacy.
Amazing Lecturers for our Plenaries!
We have the honor of having exceptional researchers for the plenary conferences. The opening conference will be given by Dr. Phillip Allen Sharp, Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1993. The title of his lecture is “Transforming Pharmacy through scientific advances”. We also have the presence of Dr. Manuel Elkin Patarroyo, Prince of Asturias Award for Scientific and Technical Research in 1994, who will speak about “The New Vaccines”. Dr. Mariano García Blanco, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas, will complete these lectures. He will give a lecture entitled “The love-hate relationship between host proteins and viral RNAs” and Dr. Beatriz Domínguez-Gil González, Director of the National Organization of Transplants that will put the keys on “Organ Transplantation: Current Challenges and Solutions”.
Other Meetings running with us!
There will also be room in the IPAP18 for the celebration of the VII International Congress of Higher Education in Pharmaceutical Sciences (EDUSFARM), the XXI Meeting of the Permanent Commission of the Ibero-American Conference of Faculties of Pharmacy (COIFFA), the XV General Assembly of COIFFA and the Meeting of the Ibero-American, Spanish and Portuguese Deans Conferences. The best Final Degree Projects, presented by the students of the different Faculties of Pharmacy will be exhibited, and thematic meetings will be held on supervised practices and study plans.
Different Scientific Societies will present their advances in different “workshops”. We will have the participation of the Spanish Society of Industrial Pharmacy and Galenics (SEFIG), the Spanish Society of Formulaic Pharmacists (AEFF) and the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH). The presentation entitled “The pharmacist you need”, organized by the Spanish Society of Family and Community Pharmacy (SEFAC), will take special attention. It will take place in the Paraninfo of the University of Salamanca and the installation of an “ad hoc” mounted tent in one of the emblematic squares of the city.

Finally, as expected, the IPAP18 will have an important business representation that has expressed its interest in participating in this important event. There will be special sessions to present the companies of our sector located in the Science Park of the University of Salamanca, as well as the presentation of different StartUps dedicated to our area of interest.
We hope that the congress awakens interest and has a great impact, since it aims to bring together all pharmaceutical sectors at the University of Salamanca, eight hundred years after its founding.
